In the rolling green hills of Kirinyaga, just outside the village of Ngariama, sits the Kiangoi Factory. Operated by the Rung'eto Farmer’s Cooperative Society (the same group behind the Kii station, where we’ve sourced several lots over the years), Kiangoi services a region where coffee production is relatively new. With volcanic soils that haven’t been overworked by decades of conventional agriculture, coffees from this area often present striking clarity and intensity thanks to the combination of high elevation, fresh plant stock, and nutrient-dense soil.

The approach to processing at Kiangoi is equally impressive as its surrounding natural environment. Selectively harvested cherry is delivered quickly to the factory, de-pulped the same day, then fermented in the traditional Kenyan style, first in open-air tanks for 12–24 hours, then washed through long grading channels before undergoing a second “soak” in fresh water for another 10–12 hours. This double fermentation not only enhances the sparkling acidity and layered sweetness but also gives the producers at the mill a second opportunity to remove lower-density seeds, ensuring only the highest quality remains.

The combo of ideal growing conditions and meticulous processing comes together for a stunning coffee in the cup. You'll find floral hibiscus notes surrounded by jammy blackberry sweetness.
