Natural [Dry-Processed] Parainema Varietal // 1200 - 2030 masl
Carlos Pola, owner & operator of Finca Las Brisas, loves to push the boundaries with his coffee production. From new cultivation practices to crazy fermentations, Carlos loves to innovate, and we're lucky enough to taste the rewards of his creativity. We were first introduced to Carlos and his coffee in 2019 when his coffee was imported for the first time to the US. Before that, his coffee was only available in Europe & Asia. We instantly fell in love and have been buying his coffee every season since, making this our FIFTH year in a row buying coffee from Carlos.
But our love for Carlos goes deeper than just the cup as his agricultural philosophy is truly inspirational. Carlos is dedicated to regenerative agriculture, employing methods that reduce chemical inputs, improve soil health, and enhance the biodiversity of his farm. His efforts include using nitrogen-fixing trees, applying organic fertilizers, and integrating specific fungi that improve the coffee plants' nutrient absorption. And what's crazy is that most of his methods contradict prevalent theories espoused by local agronomists; yet, his farm is one of the happiest, healthiest farms you'll find in El Salvador!
BUT WAIT, there's even more to love about Carlos! He's also the latest producer to join our blockchain project, highlighting fair wage transparency and supply chain traceability. We started this project years ago with our friends Bext360 and Catratcha Coffee in Honduras and have now expanded to El Salvador with Carlos. this project tracks coffee from the point of harvest to YOU, the consumer, ensuring every step of the supply chain is transparent and verifiable, including the impact of our profit sharing initiative built into the project. Through this profit share, $1 per every bag sold of Carlos' coffee goes back to Carlos once we've sold all his coffee. Carlos will be using these additional funds to improve working conditions on his farm, including sanitation facilities, workwear, protective equipment, and medicines. This investment in the workforce ensures not only the well-being of the workers but also the long-term sustainability of the farm and the community.
