Quisaché is a small town in Guatemala’s Yepocapa region with strong Katchiquel indigenous roots. Coffee is grown throughout the area but like many coffee producers in Yepocapa, coffee farming is proving to be a non-sustainable livelihood. From plant disease to historically low prices, farmers are struggling to find a future in coffee production. Luckily, there are a few players in the region that are trying to address these problems and this coffee we’re offering from Quisaché is an example of how a collective supply chain can address issues of sustainability.

This particular lot comes from a farm managed by Don Mingo. Three years ago, Don Mingo took a huge risk by undertaking a farmland renovation project. Under the guidance of master agronomist Don Mainor, new practices of plant and soil maintenance, plant dispersion and proper timing of agri-inputs were implemented in order to increase land production, plant resistance to disease, and cup quality scores. The only thing missing was market access, which was kindly provided by our homies, Yepocapa Coffee and their dudes at the San Pedrana Cooperative.

Thanks to the collective efforts of all these individuals, Don Mingo is now producing incredible coffees and receiving prices that ensure sustainable profitability for his farm. We couldn’t be more stoked to be a part of this collective chain that brings you tasty coffee AND builds a brighter future for farmers like Don Mingo.
