Just outside the town of Casablanca in Colombia’s coffee growing region of Tolima, Doris and Albeiro Albeláez cultivate some stunning coffees. This particular lot contains Caturra and Colombia varietals that have been picked at the height of ripeness, double fermented and washed to produce a truly unique cup. We were introduced to Doris and Albeiro by our buddy Herbert Peñaloza, who runs La Real Expedición Botánica. Herbert started La REB to increase environmental stewardship, and refine coffee growing practices and processing techniques with smallholder farmers in Colombia. His vision is to see farming become a more stable livelihood for the communities in which he works by increasing the quality, and therefore the price, of the coffee produced.
