It's always exciting when Kenyan coffee hits our menu and we've got a fun one for you this season that's everything you'd expect - bright, jammy, and full of sweet fruit punch notes. This coffee was grown and processed by the members of the Rungeto Farmer’s Cooperative Society, which runs the Kii coffee factory near the town of Ngariama. This region of Kenya, known as Kirinyaga, is on the southern slope of Mt. Kenya and is primarily a tea-growing area with most of the coffee plant stock being relatively new. As a result, the soils haven't been overworked by years of conventional agriculture, which leaves plenty of nutrients for prime coffee production. What's more, much of the area was planted with coffee just before the rise of hybrid varietals in Kenya, which means that 99% of the farmers that deliver to Kii grow SL28 and SL34, with only about 1% using rust-resistant varietals like Ruiru 11 or Batian. All of this adds up to the production of super tasty coffee that we're stoked to roast and can't wait for you to enjoy!
