Rwanda coffees are back baby and this year we had a little sourcing snafu with our usual homies, Gihanga Coffee. Global trade issues are no joke, even for a lil company like ourselves. So instead of tasty treats from Busanze and Mbizi this year (don't worry we'll try hard to get them back next season!), we're rocking some amazing coffee from the incredible Ibisi Mountain Hills washing station. It's so good we actually bought TWO iterations of their coffee - one washed, one natural.

The Ibisi Mountain Hills washing station is located on the Ibisi bya Huye mountain of Southern Rwanda, just a short drive from the Nyungwe Forest (the same forest that borders Busanze). Bernard Uwitije, born and raised in the area, had been trading non-washed, non-specialty coffee up until 2015, when he realized the impact potential for fully washed, specialty-grade coffee. He built his first washing station, Gitega Hills, which operated successfully in his first year and he decided to expand the operations by building a second washing station, Ibisi Mountain, in 2017.

This station works with more than 2000 farmers. Among them, 845 farmers work into 25 groups with their farms certified C.A.F.E Practices - 45% of them are women.
Part of the income generated by the station each year after repayment of loans is given as a premium to farmers to pay health insurance, school fees for their children, and sometimes upgrade their homes and lifestyle.
